Conservative Blogger Visits Occupy Denver

… and doesn’t find what he quite expected.

And that really is the rub – if you listen to the OccupyDenver advocates, not the mainstream press and not the mentally ill, high, and other oddities the press obsesses upon you get a coherent message.  It is a message that I often do not share, but it is a very different message than the stereotypes consistently portrayed about OccupyDenver.

Much of the criticism of the movement is that it is dirty, anti-police, violent, and socialist. I spent most of yesterday afternoon reviewing the Denver Post’s and the local television stations’ website coverage of the movement.   Almost every headline and opening of a story is about violence, about filth, about anti-police behavior, about people who are incoherent. And almost always buried at the bottom of the article is a statement from the OccupyDenver activists that the people interviewed or arrested were not associated with OccupyDenver.

Read the rest. A well-written piece by conservative blogger, John Howard.

Conservative blogger? He notes he voted for Hickenlooper, a Democrat. He also notes:

“Beyond a disgust with crony capitalism I disagree with much of the Tea Party’s and much of OccupyDenver’s views.”

Finally, in his response to one comment, he says:

“Been a while since I was called conservative!”

So you’ve totally mischaracterized this blogger as ‘conservative’, and now that’s getting picked up and posted elsewhere (I first saw this posted on facebook) – which is one of the ways in which people end up so woefully misinformed in our society.

If you’d titled the piece ‘liberal blogger visits occupy denver,’ it would not have been nearly so noteworthy, which raises questions about this blogs motivation. Not like it was tough to figure out Howard’s political leanings…

I spoke with the man extensively while he was at the Occupation. He self-identified as conservative. I self-identify as conservative, and I got the impression he thought of me as a liberal.

Perhaps you, and many like you, should abandon the false dichotomy spoon-fed to you by the mainstream media that political leanings are absolutes, and one vote for a Democrat forever makes one a liberal, yea verily, regardless of how many conservative opinions you otherwise hold.

Colorado is a big donkey state, so impartial reporting doesn’t exist here, so no surprise here..

It shouldn’t be a matter of blue vs. red…black vs. white…rather RIGHT vs. WRONG. Intelligence has nothing to do with whether you’re born (either) a GIVER or a TAKER…Narcissists are born takers…which means they are incapable of compassion. We (givers) need to just pity them all…they’ll never get it.
